How to use VAT Calculator by Country
- Pick your country — its 2025 standard VAT or GST rate loads automatically.
- Choose a mode: 'Add VAT' to add tax onto a net price, or 'Remove VAT' to pull it out of a VAT-inclusive total.
- Enter the price. The rate stays editable so you can switch to a reduced or zero rate.
- Read the result at the top and the net / VAT / gross breakdown below.
Common use cases
- Invoicing and quotes. Add the correct country VAT/GST to a net price when billing clients, or show a VAT-inclusive figure on a quote.
- Reverse VAT from a receipt. Work out the pre-tax (net) amount and the VAT portion from a gross, VAT-inclusive total for bookkeeping.
- Cross-border pricing. Compare what the same net price becomes after VAT in different countries when selling internationally.
Tips
- The built-in figures are the standard rates. Most countries also have reduced rates for food, books, medicine and more — edit the rate for those.
- Use 'Remove VAT' whenever a price already includes VAT and you need the net amount.
- In Canada the built-in 5% is federal GST only; most provinces add PST/HST on top — enter your province's combined rate.
- You can't get the net by simply subtracting the VAT percentage from the gross — divide by (1 + rate) instead, which the tool does for you.
Troubleshooting
- The rate for my country looks wrong.
- It shows the standard rate. If your goods use a reduced or zero rate, just type the correct percentage into the rate field — the result updates instantly.
- My reversed net doesn't match a simple subtraction.
- VAT is charged on the net, not the gross, so you divide the gross by (1 + rate) rather than subtracting the percentage. The tool uses the correct method.
- Which mode should I use?
- If your starting price does not yet include VAT, use Add VAT. If it already includes VAT and you want the pre-tax figure, use Remove VAT.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I add VAT to a price?
- Pick your country to load its standard rate (or type your own), keep 'Add VAT' selected, and enter the net price. The tool shows the VAT amount and the gross total.
- How do I remove VAT from a total?
- Switch to 'Remove VAT' mode and enter the VAT-inclusive total. The tool divides by (1 + rate) to give the correct pre-tax (net) price and the VAT portion.
- Are the VAT rates up to date for 2025?
- Yes. Each country's 2025 standard VAT/GST rate is built in. Because reduced and zero rates also exist, the rate field stays editable so you can adjust it.
- Does it cover GST countries like Australia, India and Canada?
- Yes. GST works the same way mathematically as VAT — the tool loads Australia 10%, India 18%, New Zealand 15%, Singapore 9% and Canada's 5% federal GST, all editable.
- Is anything I enter uploaded?
- No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser — nothing is sent to a server.
