How to use Remove Background

  2. First run: the AI model (~40 MB) downloads to your browser and caches forever. Takes 15-30 seconds. All future runs skip this.
  3. Pick output: PNG for transparent background (best quality), WebP for smaller files. Optionally replace transparent with white / black / any color.
  4. Click Remove background. Processing takes 2-8 seconds depending on image size. Download the result — sharpened cutout of the subject.

  • The AI model is cached after first use — subsequent processing starts in 2-3 seconds instead of 15-30 seconds.
  • For very complex scenes (multiple subjects, camouflaged objects), you may see edge artifacts. Manual touch-up in Photoshop / GIMP handles the last 5%.

Troubleshooting

First run is very slow.
The ~40 MB AI model downloads on first use. Wait 15-30 seconds on a decent connection. All future runs are instant.
Edges look choppy.
Try a higher-resolution source image. The AI produces cleaner edges when it has more pixels to work with.
Part of the subject was removed.
This can happen with subjects that match the background color, or with unusual poses. Try a different photo with clearer separation, or manually touch up in an image editor.

Does it work on mobile?
Yes on modern iPhones and high-end Androids. Older phones may struggle with the 40 MB model — desktop is the smoothest experience.
