PDF to Word Converter
Extract text from any PDF into an editable Word document — right in your browser.

🔒 100% in-browser. Text extraction uses pdfjs, Word generation uses the docx library — nothing is uploaded.
ℹ️ Best for text-heavy PDFs (reports, contracts, e-books). Complex layouts (multi-column magazines, forms) lose formatting — this is the honest limit of client-side conversion.
Depends on the tool — client-side tools keep files on-device; server tools auto-delete files after processing.
How to use PDF to Word
- Drop a PDF (up to 50 MB). Digital PDFs (reports, contracts, e-books, articles) give the cleanest results.
- Optionally pick specific pages ('1-5,10' or leave blank for all) and choose a font (Calibri default).
- Click Convert to Word. Text is extracted from every page and reassembled into paragraphs.
- Download the .docx file. Open in Microsoft Word, LibreOffice, Google Docs, or Pages — text is fully editable.
Common use cases
- Editing contracts and reports. Received a PDF that needs your edits? Convert to Word, make your changes, then export back to PDF.
- Repurposing research. Extract text from academic papers, market research, or industry reports for citations, notes, or presentations.
- Legal document review. Convert scanned court filings, agreements, and briefs into editable Word for redlining and comments.
- E-book editing. Turn a PDF e-book into an editable Word document for annotation, translation, or content adaptation.
- Resume rescue. Someone sent you their resume as a PDF and you need to edit it? PDF → Word gives you an editable copy in seconds.
Tips
- This is a TEXT extraction tool — layout fidelity (columns, images, exact font matching) is not preserved. For text-heavy documents that's fine; for magazines or forms, expect a plain-text version.
- For scanned PDFs (image only), text extraction won't work — you need OCR first. OCR support is on our roadmap.
- Larger PDFs (100+ pages) work but take 10-30 seconds. Splitting first is faster if you only need certain sections.
- The output uses standard Word formatting — Calibri 11pt by default. Change the font in the tool or edit in Word after.
Troubleshooting
- Extracted text is garbled.
- PDFs sometimes embed text without proper Unicode mapping. This is a fundamental PDF issue — no client-side tool can fix it. Try opening the PDF in Adobe Acrobat and re-saving.
- Layout is different from the PDF.
- Client-side conversion focuses on text content, not layout preservation. Tables, columns, and complex layouts are simplified into paragraphs.
- The PDF has images and I want to keep them.
- This version extracts text only. To keep images, use PDF → JPG to export image pages separately, then insert them in the Word document.
Frequently asked questions
- Is my PDF uploaded?
- No. 100% client-side. Text extraction uses pdfjs, .docx generation uses the docx library — both run in your browser.
- Does it preserve formatting?
- Text and paragraph breaks are preserved. Fonts, colors, tables, images, and columns are NOT preserved — this is the honest limit of client-side conversion. For layout-perfect conversion, use Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Does it work with scanned PDFs?
- No — scanned PDFs are images. You need OCR (optical character recognition) first. If your PDF's text is selectable in a PDF reader, this tool works.
- What's the max file size?
- 50 MB. That's a browser memory limit — larger PDFs may crash the tab. Use Split PDF to break large documents into chunks.
- Can I convert password-protected PDFs?
- No — you'd need to unlock the PDF first (Preview on Mac, Adobe Reader, or similar), then convert.
