How to use PDF to Excel

  1. Upload a PDF up to 15 MB. Any tabular PDF works — financial reports, price lists, inventory, product catalogs, research papers with data tables.
  2. Click Extract tables. Our AI reads every page, identifies each table, and returns them as structured data.
  3. Review the preview on the page. Each table shows up to 20 rows — the full data is in the downloads.
  4. Download as XLSX (one sheet per table, sheet names auto-generated), CSV (first table only), or JSON (all tables, developer-friendly).

Common use cases

  • Annual report analysis. 10-K, 10-Q and earnings reports have dozens of tables buried in 100+ pages. Extract them to Excel to run your own analysis without manual retyping.
  • Price list conversion. Vendor PDF price lists become CSV imports for your e-commerce catalog or ERP. Multi-column tables with SKUs, MOQ, tiered pricing all preserved.
  • Research data. Academic papers publish data as PDF tables. Extract straight into a spreadsheet for meta-analysis or your own charts.
  • Financial statements. Balance sheets, income statements, cash flow — every table becomes its own Excel sheet, ready to feed a financial model.
  • Product catalog import. Manufacturer catalogs shipped as PDF? Extract to CSV, map columns to your Shopify / WooCommerce / Amazon feed.

Tips

  • Digital PDFs (native text) give the cleanest results. Scanned PDFs work via vision but with lower accuracy on small text.
  • Multi-page tables are auto-stitched — you get one clean sheet instead of split fragments.
  • For very large PDFs (50+ pages), split first with our Split PDF tool and process in chunks.
  • The AI names sheets based on table content ('Q3 Revenue', 'Employee List') — you can rename in Excel.

Troubleshooting

AI missed a table.
Tables with unusual borders or heavy formatting can be skipped. Re-upload with a clearer version or select just the relevant pages.
Merged cells got flattened.
AI flattens multi-row headers into single-row Excel-compatible headers. This is intentional — sortable/filterable in Excel.
Numbers came in as text.
The AI preserves original formatting. Convert columns to numbers in Excel with Data → Text to Columns.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF stored anywhere?
No. Zero-retention on our server and on Anthropic's API. PDF is processed and immediately discarded.
Does it work with scanned PDFs?
Partially. Claude's vision reads scanned tables but accuracy is lower than digital PDFs. For scanned bank statements specifically, use the dedicated Bank Statement → Excel tool.
How many tables can it extract at once?
No hard limit. We've tested with 30+ tables in a single 50-page PDF. Very complex documents may take 30-60 seconds.
Can I import into Google Sheets?
Yes. Download the XLSX or CSV — Google Sheets opens both natively, one sheet per table.
What about really wide tables (30+ columns)?
Handled. Wide tables render as Excel sheets with all columns preserved. Excel supports up to 16,384 columns.
